John Purcell: The Stepfathers vs. a heckler -
Tonight, The Stepfathers did a typically great set. However, during the last five minutes of the second half, a drunken heckler sitting in the front row decided to contribute to the show in a big way. By actively engaging the performers in conversation (I forget exactly what he said but it was something like “Paul makes me hard,” Paul being Connor Ratliff’s character in the scene). If you’ve never seen anything like that before let me tell you, it’s horrifying. The Stepfathers wasted no time and Connor (in character) announced that he was going to fuck him. He proceeded to spread the guy’s legs and aggressively improv fuck the shit out of him. When he was “done,” Silvija did the same. The entire time, the guy kept trying to speak but Chris Gethard shouted at him “no one cares what you have to say.” Silvija then picked the guy up out of his seat and dragged him across the stage and put him in a cage with wolverines (a callback to the first half of the show which the audience loved). They lived in this scene for a while, with Shannon making a bunch of snide remarks about the guy, until Will Hines did a walk-on as someone from Child Protective Services (another callback) and asked why they were keeping a child in a cage with wolverines. Gethard responded “this man isn’t a child, he just acts like one.” Blackout. As the audience went nuts, Silvija gestured for the guy to go back to his seat while Michael Delaney stood giving him the bird. And that’s how you deal with a heckler at an improv show.
Legendary.
